  1.      In  spite of claims on some software, and the apparent  fax  commands,
  2. the  present  state  of faxmodem/software will  not  differentiate  between
  3. fax/data/voice. Soon there will be ZOOM Faxmodems available with 'RINGMATE'
  4. and  there will be software to support it. In the meantime if you have  an
  5. 'older' Zoom Faxmodem.....

  8.                    Distictive ring / Ringmate
  9.  
  10.      Many  areas of the country have this feature, which makes  your  phone
  11. ring  differently  (RING   or   RING-RING) if a person calls  you  using  a
  12. different  phone number on the same phone line. Your original  number  will
  13. RING, the new number will RING-RING (like the old party line). If you  tell
  14. people the 2nd number is your FAX number, and set your fax 'rings' to 6  or
  15. 8  then  you can answer the 1-ring number when it rings, and  let  the  fax
  16. answer  when you hear the 2-ring call. It works like this. (if you  have  8
  17. rings set in software)

  28.      When  you  hear the 1-ring you will have 7 rings before the  fax  will
  29. answer,  giving you plenty of time to get the phone before the fax. And  on
  30. 2-ring, you just don't answer at all letting the faxmodem answer.

  32. NOTE>>>  This  is  a  workaround, not a replacement  for  a  Faxmodem  with
  33. Distinctive Ring feature, because this usually will work ONLY when you  are
  34. there  to take the voice call. It will NOT usually work with  an  answering
  35. machine  or with fax/data. Sometimes an answering machine see  the  double-
  36. RING  as one-ring and it may work. The NEW Distinctive Ring  Zoom  Faxmodem
  37. will  be able to work with  answering-machine\voice/fax/data with up  to  3
  38. phone numbers.
